UWFDM-1162 Nuclear Considerations for FIRE
نویسنده
چکیده
Nuclear analyses have been performed for the baseline design of the Fusion Ignition Research Experiment (FIRE). Nuclear heating, structural radiation damage, and magnet insulator dose were evaluated. Critical issues requiring additional R&D effort include low-temperature embrittlement of copper and identifying insulators that can handle a dose as high as 1.5x10 Rads under the FIRE load conditions. Activation calculations were performed to determine the amount of radioactivity and decay heat generated. Accessibility for handson maintenance was assessed. All components qualify as low level waste.

UWFDM-1111 Initial Nuclear Performance Evaluation of the FIRE Ignition Device
Nuclear parameters for the FIRE ignition device have been determined. These parameters included nuclear heating, radiation damage, and magnet insulator dose. Nuclear heating values as high as ~40 W/cm are deposited in the invessel components. End-of-life damage is very low and will not limit the lifetime of the chamber components. The peak end-of-life insulator dose is 1.5x10 Rads. The total nu...

Neutronics and activation calculations have been performed for the FIRE design with different first wall design options. Modest values of nuclear heating occur in the machine components. Magnet insulators that have radiation tolerance to 150 MGy should be used. The operational schedule allows for decay of short-lived radionuclides between pulses resulting in low levels of activity and decay hea...
متن کاملSafety Analysis of Spent Fuel Transportation Cask of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant through the Passing of Fire Tunnel with ANSYS®10.0
The spent fuel assemblies (FAs) of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant are planed to be transported by TK-13 casks. Each spent fuel transportation cask holds 12 spent FAs and has a thick steel container to provide shielding. The calculations have been performed for FAs with burn ups of 60 MWd/kg and a 3-years cooling period. The ANSYS®10.0 general finite element analysis package was se...
متن کاملUWFDM-1221 Radiation Environment for FIRE Diagnostic Ports
Two-dimensional neutronics calculations have been performed to determine the nuclear radiation environment at selected locations in the FIRE diagnostics penetrations and to assess the impact of streaming on average flux outside the port flange. The total neutron flux (integrated over all energies), the fast neutron flux (E > 0.1 MeV) and the total gamma flux were calculated at the front of the ...
